Activate the pack: Locate the inner liquid pouch (or designated activation area) and squeeze it firmly until you feel or hear a "pop" as it breaks. Some packs have arrows or specific spots to squeeze. Shake to mix: Vigorously shake the pack to ensure the chemicals and water are thoroughly mixed. You'll feel the pack start to get cold within a few seconds. Wrap (optional but recommended): While some packs can be applied directly to the skin, it's generally recommended to wrap the cold pack in a thin towel, cloth, or a dedicated cover. This helps prevent direct contact with the extremely cold surface, which can cause "ice burn" or tissue damage. Apply to the affected area: Place the activated and wrapped cold pack directly onto the injured or painful area. Duration: Apply the cold pack for about 15-20 minutes at a time. Do not exceed 20 minutes, as prolonged exposure can be harmful. Remove the pack when the area starts to feel numb. Rest and repeat: After 20 minutes, remove the pack and allow the skin to return to its normal temperature (usually about 60 minutes or a few hours) before reapplying if needed.
